Tourists Coming To Iceland On Shorter Trips Than Before

Research suggests that tourists are spending less time in Iceland, reports RÚV.

According to data from Statistics Iceland, tourists are spending on average 3.8 nights in Iceland, a sharp decrease from the year before; 4.5 nights.

Kristján Sigurjónsson, editor of Icelandic travel site turisti.is, believes the growing strength of the króna is to blame.

“The currency is the most obvious explanation, or rather the growing strength of the Icelandic króna. It’s much more expensive to visit now than it was last year or the year before” said Kristján. “Another explanation might be that the number of passengers are staying for shorter periods while utilising the “stop over” service available with Icelandair and WOW Air.”
