Kim Jong-un ‘has ordered North Korean hackers to rob World Bank, Bank of America’

North Korea has reportedly told its army of hackers to target major world banks and rob them.

This is according to the New York Times, which lists the Bank of America and the European Central Bank as targets for the country’s cyber-criminals.

South Korean authorities said the country has built up an arsenal of roughly 1,700 computer scientists, backed by up to 5,000 trainers.

This emerged after the Polish financial regulator discovered a virus in a webpage which contained downloadable software. The hackers left a trail which revealed a list of more than 100 targets around the world.

Private investigators concluded those behind the failed attack were the same hackers who stole $81 million from the Central Bank of Bangladesh, and were responsible for the Sony data hack in 2014.

The hackers have reportedly been instructed to attempt to hack banks because of the increasing financial constraints imposed on the country by the US.
