Kim Kardashian West Just Became a Role Model for Pregnant Women Everywhere

The world was not kind to Kim Kardashian West the first time she was pregnant. (Who can forget that deplorable comparison to Shamu?)

But instead of resorting to hiding under a muumuu for the whole of her second pregnancy, Kim has chosen instead to do what she does best: She took a very naked, very pregnant selfie.

Of course, we’ve seen this side of Kim before. In fact, we’ve pretty much seen every side, and every inch of her buff body.

But for all of her naked magazine covers—W, Paper—and her revealing selfies, this is perhaps the most exposed we’ve ever seen her.

Speaking from experience, pregnancy isn’t usually a time when a woman feels compelled to share photos of herself. Who would when dealing with weight gain, puffiness, and exhaustion?

Instead of capturing cute baby bumps and that mythical “glow,” photos snapped during pregnancy usually tend to be unflattering—with plenty of double-chin action and cankles on display.

Famous women, meanwhile, have to live out their pregnancies in front of the public eye. Often times, celebrities fall victim to two extremes:

idolized with an impossibly glamorous nude shoot, à la Demi Moore and Alicia Keys, or openly mocked with out-of-control-weight stories.

Kardashian West is certainly familiar with the latter. By putting her expecting body on full display—no filters included—with a pose reminiscent of that infamous white bathing suit belfie, she is not only silencing the body shamers from the past, she’s also sending out a message that it’s beautiful, hell even sexy, to be pregnant.

After North West was born, Kim once confessed, she thought her weight gain was God’s way of punishing her.

“After five months I swore I’d never get pregnant again. I got so huge and it felt like someone had taken over my body,” she said in an interview with British Elle.

After posting this latest photo, Kim has since tweeted: “I’ve learned to love my body at every stage! I’m going to get even bigger & that’s beautiful too!”

It’s time we all take a cue from Kardashian West and start celebrating pregnancy in all its forms.
